The Write Like Us program at Anoka-Ramsey Community College will welcome award-winning author Edwidge Danticat for a reading and conversation on Tuesday, March 19, from 1-2 pm in the Performing Arts Center on the Rapids Campus.
Edwidge Danticat is the author of seventeen books, including The Dew Breaker, Everything Inside, seven books for children and young adults, an Oprah Book Club selection, and many other award-winning works of fiction and non-fiction. Her work beautifully explores Haitian-American identity and culture as her characters navigate experiences of immigration, love, loss, and trauma. Danticat teaches at Columbia University.

This event is free and open to the public, and the in-person event will be ASL interpreted. A book signing will follow the event.

Select copies of Danticat’s books are available for purchase at the Rapids Campus Store, with more copies for sale at the event. Our ARCC campus libraries have copies of her work, with Breath, Eyes, Memory, her Oprah Book Club selection, available as a full-text e-book. The JSTOR database also has a fantastic collection of interviews with and articles by Danticat, including two short stories from her most recent book, Everything Inside: “In the Old Days” and “The Port-au-Prince Marriage Special” (log in with your Star ID and password for access).
Write Like Us began as an equity-based creative writing program at five Twin Cities metro-area community colleges, including Anoka-Ramsey. Write Like Us centers and celebrates the work of BIPOC writers and writing students, fostering literary mentorship and leadership as it builds a platform for shared stories, voices, and lived experiences.
