Looking for a fun, fall event? Look no more, because Anoka Ramsey Community College and the Performing Arts Center are doing a showing of AView from the Bridge. This Greek Tragedy was written by Arthur Miller, and takes place in the 1950’s, in a Brooklyn Italian neighborhood.
ARCC’s own Lisa Weaver, who also teaches a theatre class, will be directing this play. Weaver faced a lot of challenges with this drama.
“To get the language and dialect just right is a challenge because being that the play takes place in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, the Actors and Actresses have to speak a certain way to present the authenticity of that time period (the 50’s) and also the area it takes place in,” Lisa also added “It will be a fun challenge.”
Rob Simonson, who plays to different roles in the ensemble, said “The biggest challenge in playing his roles are staying animated all the time and not breaking facial expressions or someone will notice,”
Jamie Costello who plays Mrs. Lipari said, “Even though her character has no actual lines in the play she is a very important character in the story.”
Lisa Weaver chose this drama, because she liked Arthur Miller.
“I really like the playwright and I love the genre this play is a part of,” said Weaver, This genre was really captured by playwrights such as,Tennessee Williams, Ugene O’Neil, and also Arthur Miller.
“I always wanted to do an Arthur Miller play,” said Weaver.
A View from the Bridge opens October 31st at 7:30 P.M. There will also be showings on November 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th show time 7:30 P.M. There is a preview of the play on October 30th at 7:30 P.M. at the Performing Arts Center at the Coon Rapids Campus.
