Womens Basketball Advances to National Tourney Quarterfinals

The Anoka-Ramsey Women’s Basketball team put on a dominant defensive performance to beat Prince George’s 59-41 in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

Anoka-Ramsey held Owens to just 26.5 percent shooting and forced 27 turnovers against the Owls.

The Golden Rams led 9-7 after the first quarter and by ten, 28-18 at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter.

A layup by Destiny Casey sparked an 18-3 run over the final seven minutes of the period as the Owls only converted one field goal and a free throw.

Mikayla Kanenwisher knocked down two threes in the deciding run as the Golden Rams led by as many as 29 in the fourth quarter.

Kanenwisher finished with 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting to go with six rebounds, and five steals.

CeCe Bell scored 12 points and added 15 rebounds.

Janea Arnoldi tallied ten points to go with nine boards.

Anoka-Ramsey advances to the quarterfinals where they’ll face #1 ranked Owens at 2:00pm on Thursday.
