Golden Rams Rally for 49-47 Win over Hamline JV
December 7, 2022
The Anoka-Ramsey Women’s Basketball team spent a majority of Tuesday night’s game struggling offensively from the field, before a 4th quarter rally led to their 8th straight win to start the season, 49-47 over Hamline JV.
The Golden Rams shot a season-low 27.5 percent from the field while scoring single digits in each of the first three quarters before a 23 point fourth quarter.
Hamline didn’t fare much better offensively, connecting on just 28.3 percent from the field and committing 26 turnovers, but they led by 12 points entering the fourth quarter.
Toni Williams connected on two free throws to cut the deficit to ten, followed by two more free throws from Mikayla Kanenwisher to pull within eight.
After a Hamline free throw, Kanenwisher knocked down a three to make it a six point game. The Pipers responded with a three of their own to go back ahead by nine, but Janea Arnoldi connected from long range to jump start a 7-0 run to pull within 44-42.
The Pipers, playing with six players, had two players foul out late resulting in playing short-handed 5 on 4 the last 1:30 of the game. Anoka-Ramsey took advantage. Trailing by three, Ah’Janay Yancy made a free throw, followed by an Arnoldi jumper and another Yancy free throw to give Anoka-Ramsey a 46-45 lead.
Hamline regained the lead on their next possession but a Yancy layup and Kanenwisher provided the final margin as Hamline missed a potential game-winning three on their final possession.
Kanenwisher scored 15 points to go with four rebounds and five steals.
Destiny Casey scored 11 points.
Anoka-Ramsey is 8-0 on the season and will travel to Rainy River on Saturday, December 10.
