The Anoka-Ramsey Women’s Basketball team, ranked #3 in the preseason NJCAA DIII poll, knocked off #2 Northland 63-49 to start the 2024-25 season Friday evening.
Jada Lussier led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points. Five Golden Rams scored at least nine points with Sydney Hazuga and Bella Kanz scoring ten apiece, and Jordan McMahon and Mariam Alowonie each chipping in nine points.
Anoka-Ramsey trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, but used a stifling second quarter defense, holding Northland to just six points in the quarter, to take a 27-20 lead into halftime.
Leading by six, Anoka-Ramsey used a quick six point burst to go ahead by 12 in the third quarter and would lead by as many as 16 points in the fourth.
The Golden Rams forced 30 turnovers, 18 coming off steals, and out-rebounded Northland 37-25.
McMahon finished with 11 rebounds, and Lynae Walker led the defense with seven steals while adding six assists.
Anoka-Ramsey hosted Central Lakes on Wednesday at 5:00pm. A story on that game is still being written.
