Former Anoka-Ramsey Women’s Basketball Coach, and Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Dan Mielke passed away on December 9 after a battle with prostate cancer.
Mielke, who resided in Monticello, coached the Golden Rams for nine years beginning in 1987.
Coach Mielke’s teams won two NJCAA Region championships as well as the 1994 NJCAA National Championship. That team finished the season 30-1 with Mielke being named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year.
Mielke was inducted into the Anoka-Ramsey Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020. Prior to that, the 1994 National Championship team was inducted in 2016 as part of the inaugural Hall of Fame class.
Coach Mielke also spent numerous years coaching and teaching at the high school level.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18 at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel in Monticello.
