The Anoka-Ramsey Men’s Basketball team picked up their third straight win 74-71 over MN North Mesabi Range on Wednesday evening.
The matchup featured two head coaches who were prominent basketball players from north Minneapolis in Golden Ram coach Khalid El-Amin, and Mesabi coach Tamara Moore.
Both starred at Minneapolis North High School before going on to successful collegiate and professional careers. In this first matchup between the two as coaches, El-Amin’s team came out on top. The two teams will have a rematch on December 2 at 3:00pm at Anoka-Ramsey.
As for the game, the teams battled throughout and finished the night with similar numbers – Anoka-Ramsey shot 41.4 percent overall, with Mesabi connecting on 39.2 percent. Each team made eight free throws with Mesabi winning the rebound battle by four, but Anoka-Ramsey converting eight made threes to just five for the Norse.
The Golden Rams were led by Ibrahim El-Amin with 23 points on 5 of 13 from the three-point line to go with seven assists.
Chaz Franklin scored 16 points making 3 of 6 from three.
Micah Adkins recorded 14 points on 7 of 13 shooting overall and nine rebounds.
Tristan Lee scored 12 points while adding eight rebounds.
The Golden Rams improve to 3-1 overall and will host Vermilion on December 1 at 7:30pm, followed by the Mesabi rematch on December 2.
