Both teams won the MCAC Region XIII Championship hosted at Anoka-Ramsey this weekend and are headed to the NJCAA Division III National tournaments that will be hosted on March 16-18.
The men’s team is headed to Rochester, Minnesota while the women’s team is headed to Utica, New York.
The men’s team played incredibly well and strong during all three games of the regional tournaments over the March 3-5 weekend. The men’s regional tournament championship game was the Anoka-Ramsey men’s Rams against the Rochester’s Yellow Jackets.
The Anoka-Ramsey men’s team won with a score of 100-83.
“I felt like we were in control, basically the whole time, it was really good.” said Malik Williams, a starter for the Anoka-Ramsey team.
The men’s team has high hopes for the national tournaments.
“We got the win, that’s what we wanted all along… but our ultimate goal is to win the Nationals.” said Harley Shear, a player on the men’s team.
“I think we should take the next three games [of the National Tournament].” added Williams.
The men’s basketball team has had a phenomenal regular season with a 12-2 MCAC Southern Division record and a total record of 24-3. The men’s team has gone back and forth between being the 1st or 2nd ranked team in the nation but won the first seed in the southern division.
The regional game for the women’s team was also Anoka-Ramsey Rams vs. Rochester’s Yellow Jackets.
The Anoka-Ramsey women’s team won with a score of 76-66.
The women’s team also had a very good regular season with a 10-2 in the MCAC Southern Division and a total record of 17-8. The women’s team ended the regular season being the number one seed in the southern division as well.
The women’s team played hard to win both games of the regional tournaments.
“I felt like it went really well… at times we felt like we were trailing but we definitely came back and won it.” said Amanda Lindsey, a starter for the women’s team.
Along with the men’s team, the women’s team has high expectations for the National Tournaments.
“I wanna win it for sure. Go in and bring home the trophy.” said Lindsey.
