The club hockey team is similar to other sports teams at Anoka-Ramsey Community College with having both practices and games scheduled. Coached by Matt Mossey, the team’s home ice arena is the Coon Rapids Ice Center, just blocks from campus, where they compete against four other local community colleges: Century College, North Hennepin Community College, Inver Hills Community College, and Normandale Community College. In the season ending playoffs, teams will compete to win the “Golden Skate” trophy, denoting that they are the champion of the 2014 club hockey season.

“We’re undefeated,” said ARCC team member Zach Batraw. Currently, the team’s record is 6-0 for the season. This looks to be a very promising season to win the “Golden Skate” for the Rams.

Each player on the Anoka-Ramsey team played for their high school hockey team in previous years.

“We didn’t know each other, but we all knew of each other through playing high school”, said Anders Skaalerud, another player for the AR team. The team consists of anywhere from eight to 16 men, added Skaalerud, depending on how many people show up to play that day.

To join club hockey, one must sign up before the start of the season by filling out the appropriate forms and paying a fee of $25. The team usually plays from 1-2:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. There is a coach bus, provided by Anoka-Ramsey Community College, which brings the team members to their away games at the other four teams’ rinks, Skaalerud said.
