Going into this game on October 31 in Saint Paul, Anoka-Ramsey were heavy underdogs. They were 7-6, while College of DuPage was 15-5. But, the Golden Rams didn’t play like underdogs at all. DuPage got on the board in the ninth minute when Kaitlyn Fehrman snuck around the right side of the keeper and finished a wide-open shot.
The Golden Rams were not phased when they knotted the score at one with a goal from Michaela Donat on a nice assist by Erin Antonson. They regained their confidence and were tied at halftime.
The score at halftime wouldn’t stand for long as DuPage scored in the 49th minute. Then, they netted another goal in the 77th minute. It looked all but over for the Golden Rams with 13 minutes left and two goals to score. They were resilient and didn’t give up. Antonson pulled Anoka-Ramsey within one in the 88th minute.
With a score of 3-2 heading into the 90th minute, the pressure was on for the Rams. They got a ball in the box and they were fouled by COD and Antonson, who had been one of the best players all game, stepped up and calmly stroked the penalty shot into the back of the net to tie the game and send them into overtime.
There was plenty of back and forth action in overtime, but nothing to show for both teams, which meant penalty kicks. DuPage was up 4-3 on penalties and Anoka-Ramsey had to score to keep the game going, but DuPage stopped the shot and advanced to the national tournament with a 3-3, (4-3) OT victory on penalty kicks.
