On 13 January 2016, boyband One Direction announced their split as a band to focus on solo music. On 5 February 2012, One Direction announced their first reunion tour.
In their first interview with E! News as a reconnected band, Liam Payne said “We had gotten so many tweets about reuniting and ending the hiatus, and after 2 years, we said enough is enough and ended the breakup.”
Their first tweet as a reconnected band read “Comeback tour! Looking for places to play. Tweet us with suggestions!” and consisted of a photo of them smiling. After receiving an overwhelming amount of tweet saying “Anoka-Ramsey Community College!!” the band reserved the main stage at Anoka-Ramsey.
I spoke with Jessica Patterson, student at Anoka-Ramsey and avid follower – called a “stan” – of One Direction, about how she feels about this tour. “OMG its sooo lit. I literally can’t even believe it I’m shook. Harry is skinny One Directions lives!!!” I used a “stan-to-English” translator and Patterson actually said “I’m so excited. I can’t believe it, I’m overwhelmed. Harry is the best, I love One Direction!”
Anoka-Ramsey president Kent Hanson is also a fan of 1D. Hanson was the first to send out a tweet asking them to play at Anoka-Ramsey. “Teenage girls aren’t the only fans of One Direction.” Hanson has seen One Direction live 3 times and was heartbroken at their breakup.
Tickets to the upcoming concert can be bought through Ticketmaster, Stubhub, or directly through the Anoka-Ramsey Community College website.
