Golden Rams basketball is off to a solid start. The men’s team started the season with a four-game winning streak. The last three games were all won by double-digits. The women’s record sits at 1-2. They started the season with a loss, but followed it up with two hard-fought and close games.
The women’s first win came against Gogebic Community College with Rashonna Thomas leading the team with 20 points and Dariel Lipscomb pulling in an incredible 24 rebounds. The following game against Milwaukee Area Technical College came down to the wire with MATC pulling away in the final seconds from the free throw line. They begin a four-game road trip on November 25 against the undefeated Cochise College Apaches.
For the men’s team, Edvonte Copeland, who leads the team in scoring and in minutes per game, and Malik Williams, who leads the team in assists and steals, both have won MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week honors for their early season play. Copeland scored 31 points in their last win against Milwaukee Area Technical College. Their next two games will be on November 21 at home against University of St. Thomas JV, and then they will travel to Cloquet to play Fond Du Lac Tribal Community College on December 2. The University of St. Thomas JV team has won its last two games before traveling to Anoka to face the Golden Rams. The Fond Du Lac Tribal Community College squad holds an undefeated record at 2-0.
