Anoka-Ramsey’s women’s soccer team defeated the College of DuPage on Saturday afternoon in overtime to claim the 2016 NJCAA District D Championship after a very long, very even game.
The first goal of the game was scored by the College of DuPage in the tenth minute. They held the lead until Rochelle Perzel scored Anoka-Ramsey’s first goal in the 75 minutes into the game, evening the score. Neither team scored during regulation or during two rounds of overtime. The game came down to penalty kicks.
Anoka-Ramsey kicked in four penalty kicks while DuPage scored three. This was the third year in a row the District Championship came down to penalty kicks.
Goalie Makayla Halford would have another great game saving seven shots on the day.
For the second time in Anoka-Ramsey’s history the women’s team will advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. The National Tournament takes place from Nov. 10-13 in Toms River, New Jersey.
